1. Certificate Disease Control Officer Salary 


A certificate Disease Control Officer is also known as Field Technician. They are lowest rank in the disease control and prevention field. It is a two-year course for people who cannot afford diploma or degree in disease control.


In Ghana, the salary range of a newly posted certificate disease control officer (Field Technician) ranges from ¢1,400 - ¢1,800. This salary increases as he or she gains more experienced. For instance, my newly posted disease control friend was paid 1,344gh in his first year. But today, he earns close to ¢2k. Same certificate.


A senior certificate disease control and surveillance officer in Ghana is likely to earn close to ¢2,000. This does not include allowances and bonuses earned from the work.


2. Diploma Disease Control Officer Salary 


Diploma disease control officers salary is slightly higher than that of certificate holders. The most popular disease control workers in Ghana are Diploma holders.


Diploma disease control and surveillance officers take home salary is between ¢2,100 and ¢2,600 within the first month of posting.

3. Degree Disease Control Officer Salary 


Degree Disease control and surveillance officer salary is higher than that of diploma disease control officers. In fact, it is twice the salary of certificate surveillance officers (Field Technicians).


In Ghana, degree Disease control and surveillance officers earn between ¢2,500 - ¢3,000 per month within the first year of posting. This is their take-home salary after taxes.


As I said, these are based on the first year of postings. As times goes on, all disease control and surveillance officers salary increases. You can use this as a reference.


Health Promotion Officer Salary in Ghana 


Health Promotion Officers salaries are similar to that of other allied health professionals salaries in the country. Their salaries are almost the same or should I say their salaries are the same? Like other public Health Promoters also work in hospitals, health directorates and health centers across the country.


1. Diploma Health Promotion Officers Salary 


As far as I am concerned, there is currently no certificate courses in health promotion in the control. All health promoters are either diploma or degree holders.


In Ghana, a health promotion officer who holds a diploma certificate earns between ¢2,000 and ¢2,500 per month. This salary does not include taxes and other deductions.


Hospital Diploma health promotion officer salary per month: ¢2,000 — ¢2,500 within the first year of posting. This does not apply to a senior health promotion officer. It is solely for the newly posted holding a diploma certificate.


2. Degree Health Promotion Officer Salary 


Like disease control officers, health promoters with degree earn slightly higher than that of diploma holders. A Degree Health Promotion Officer earns between ¢2,500 — ¢3,000 per month in Ghana within the first year of posting. This amount does not include taxes and other deductions.


How to Become Disease Control Officer in Ghana


1. You can start with a Certificate or Diploma in Disease Control & Surveillance, Public Health, or Community Health – Disease Control Option from a recognized health training institution (e.g., College of Health & Well-Being, University of Health and Allied Sciences, Yamfo College of Health, University for Development Studies). 


Diploma training typically takes 2–3 years and prepares you for mid-level disease control work. 


Bachelor’s Degree (Preferred for Officer Roles)


Bachelor’s degree in Public Health or a related field (with a focus on disease control, epidemiology, environmental health, health promotion, etc.) is often preferred for official Disease Control Officer roles at district or regional levels. 


2. Meet Academic and Practical Requirements


Certificate/Diploma route: Pass SSSCE/WASSCE and complete public health/disease control training.

Degree route: First Degree in Public Health, Environmental Health, Epidemiology, or a related field.


3. Registration & Licensing


After graduation, register with the Allied Health Professions Council of Ghana (for diploma and degree holders) to legally practice in the health sector. 


 4. National Service


After completing tertiary education, do mandatory National Service (for diploma/degree graduates), which gives you field experience.
